Speaking at the Durham Union dispatch box is an experience unlike any other. You will feature on the order paper, on the Instagram and on our YouTube channel. You will get the opportunity to debate the most pressing issues of our time alongside and against world-leading speakers.

Floor Speeches

Any member attending our debates will get the opportunity to raise their hand at the end of the main speeches to make a floor speech. These are short 3-minute speeches for or against the motion from the members perspective.

We reserve a prize for the best floor speech. In the past, prizes have include a print of a fine sketch of Durham, signed copies of books by speakers, or bottles of vodka from the Wasabi Company.

Questions

We also invite members to make points of information during the debate or to ask questions of speakers after floor speeches have concluded. Please keep them Brief.
