Our Facilities

The Union has been based in several locations around Durham, but we are now located in our debating chamber and office on Palace Green with our Club Bar and Residential House at 24 North Bailey.

The Debating Chamber

A Grade II listed tudor style building designed by W. D Caroe and finished in 1929, the Pemberton Buildings provide the iconic historic site that the Union calls home. Situated overlooking Palace Green, in the midst of Durham’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Chamber hosts the Union’s debates, addresses and panel discussions and in the past has welcomed a variety of world-changing individuals, both as speakers and members. It is a magnificent setting and a special place in which to listen to and question some of the world’s leading public figures.

24 North Bailey Club

Colloquially known as ’24s’ this is the Union Society’s bar. It is a regular fixture on any Bailey bar crawl and has a lovely beer garden, with an extensive range of cocktails and imported beers on offer. Open every evening till late, 24s is bound to become one your favourite places to drink in Durham. Members can also apply here for some of the best student accommodation in Durham.

The Office

Across the corridor from the Debating Chamber, the office is where our Officers can often be found hard at work, whether that’s planning next term’s social events, or editing videos for our YouTube channel. The office is also home to our Office Manager, and is where social tickets can be picked up, pre-event dinners booked and where you should go if you have any questions or general enquiries.
