The Durham Union Society will be hosting a variety of social events for members and non-members alike. The social highlight of the year is the annual Ball held in Michaelmas Term. The programme for the evening varies, but usually consists of a champagne reception, dinner, music, and after dinner dancing. The Union also holds members only socials, with recent events including a 'Halloween Social', 'American Election Social', 'Chinese New Year Social' and 'Valentines Social'.[17]

  • The Durham Union Society Michaelmas Ball:

The Durham Union Society is delighted to invite you to our annual Michaelmas Ball - this year with a Masquerade theme! Our annual Balls are among the very best in Durham, and this year will be no exception. Like last year, we will be holding the Ball at the splendid Beamish Hall. We're lining up a great drinks reception, three course meal, live music, and much more fantastic entertainment for you.

The Dress Code will be black tie, and if you fancy, you can come along in a mask too! Don't worry though, it isn't compulsory!

At 7pm on the night of the Ball, all guests will meet outside Dunelm House, where coaches will be waiting to take you to Beamish Hall. Coaches will also be waiting to take you back to Durham from Beamish Hall.

    Ball tickets are priced at:
£58.50 for members of the Durham Union Society
    £75 for non-members

    How to buy a ticket:
There are several ways to purchase a ticket.

    - For Fresher's, you will receive a paper invitation in your Durham Union Society Fresher's Pack, which you will receive in the post in a few weeks time. You can fill it in and enclose a cheque, and post it to 'The Durham Union Society, Pemberton Buildings, Palace Green, Durham, DH1 3EP'. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket at the Fresher's Fair, or use one of the options listed below once you arrive at Durham.

    - For current students, you can either visit the Durham Union office (situated on the first floor of the Pemberton Building on Palace Green) and buy the ticket in person after term starts, or you can pay by phone (01913843724). An online payment mechanism will be set up shortly, and we'll let you know when it goes live.

The Ball will sell out quickly, so make sure you buy your tickets in good time!
