We have been based in several locations around Durham, but are now located in our debating chamber and office on Palace Green with our Club Bar and Residential House at 24 North Bailey. Adjacent to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Chamber sits between the imposing structures of Durham Cathedral and Castle, lending a dramatic atmosphere to debates.

The Debating Chamber

Situated overlooking Palace Green, in the midst of Durham's World Heritage Site, the Chamber hosts the Union's debates, addresses and panel discussions and has welcomed in the past figures as diverse as Patrick Stewart, Boris Johnson and Jeremy Vine. It is a magnificent setting and a special place in which to listen to and question some of Britain's leading public figures.

Leave the A1(M) at J62 and follow the A690 into Durham. Follow signs for the City Centre at the third exit of the roundabout. At the next roundabout take the second exit up the slip road signed 'Prince Bishop P'.

Turn left into the market palce and follow the road upwards. Turn right into Owengate, a steep cobbled hill which leads to Palace Green. The Union Society is located in the Pemberton Building, the second-last building on the left as you face Durham Cathedral, next door to the Almshouses restaurant.

24 North Bailey

Colloquially known as '24s' this is the Union Society's bar. It is a regular fixture on any Bailey bar crawl and has a lovely beer garden, with an extensive range of cocktails and imported beers on offer. Open every evening, 24s is bound to become one your favourite places to drink in Durham. Members can apply here for some of the best student accommodation in Durham, and can book the Reading Room for functions.
